The Show: With the massive success of Everything I Do... and Waking Up the Neighbours, BA was hotter than hot by the last month of 1991 came around. He had one of the top albums of the year and Everything I Do... was by far and away the #1 song of the year. The band was well into the 37 show first leg of the Waking Up the World Tour which would keep them on the road through to the middle of 1993. This night was the last in Germany before moving onto other European countries such as Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Portugal. The night before playing this gig in Saarbrucken in the western side of Germany, the band made their only appearance in France at the smallest venue on the tour in Paris for one of the more unique shows on the tour. I think what I like best about watchinig this DVD is that BA is still developing his live-chops as a headlining act. The difference between watching this show and one from a few years later is significant in terms of how he works the audience, the pacing of the set and the way he speaks to the audience. He still has some stage maturity growth that he figures out along the way around the rest of the world over the next few years. Some moments of this show make me feel as if I'm watching him perform in a club with how laid-back and chatty he is during certain moments. The Songs: BA adds a little bit of the Isley Brothers Shout into the middle of Long Gone Possibly inspired from his performance in Paris the night before, BA mixes up the structure of the set list a little bit with C'mon Everybody coming AFTER Summer of '69 The Recording: The DVD is a B grade, but the sound is lower due a mono audio feed that has some hissing and pops throughout the recording. THe music is still clear, but it's not a stereo recording as are most 21st century audience recorded shows. Each DVD has menus and each song is tracked correctly, although some more sloppy than others. Disc 2 features more
"blackout" moments ( particularly in the
encores) once the audience is standing and more into the
show. As a result, I graded part 2 of the DVD a B- while
the first DVD warrants a B grade.. |
